Magic of Music Activities in 2004

A New Year's Party was held in the Orchestrion for children in orphanages and internats that are part of the RNO's Magic of Music Program. During the party, winners of the art contest (voted on by the audience at the RNO's December 20, 2003 concert in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall) were presented with their awards. All children present received gives from sponsors and Friends of the RNO, which included Mars, Coca-Cola, Wimm-Bill-Dann and Bolshevik. There were also musical performances by RNO musicians, the Children's Magic of Music Choir and the Kalinka dance ensemble

Residents of internats which the RNO sponsors under the Magic of Music Program were taken on a special field trip to the M.I. Glinka State Museum of Music Culture. There, they became acquainted with that museum's rich holdings and, of course, had some time to meet RNO musicians.

During the Easter Holy Week, Soloists of the RNO gave a series of free concerts for children and youth. This series is in its eighth year, thanks to the generous support of ChevronTexaco. The audience included children and educators from internats, handicapped children, and families which were victims of the Chernobyl disaster.

A concert was given at the House Museum of Anton Chekhov, by the Magic of Music Choir and Moscow Music Schools, under the direction of Professor L. Kontorovich.

The RNO Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Carlo Ponti, Jr., performed works by Tchaikovsky, Glinka and Ravel at a concert in the Vrubel Hall of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Soloist (harp) Svetlana Paramonovo
The RNO began work on the the Russian language version of the CD Wolf Tracks -- the original English version won a GRAMMY Award in 2004. Art created under the aegis of a Magic of Music program, "How I See Music," was used as album art for the CD. On May 15 the famous Russian director and actor Oleg Tabakov recorded the narration of Prokofiev's tale. The new Russian CD is set for a fall release by PentaTone Classics.

June 15, 17 and 18, 2004
Soloists of the RNO performed in RNO-sponsored orphanages (home numbers 7, 11, 15, 28, 73). The children heard Tchaikovsky's Children's Album, performed by the RNO Camerata.
The RNO and several corporate sponsors threw a wonderful New Year's Party for the children of the seven orphanages participating in the Magic of Music program.
