Festival del Sole

This summer, the RNO will once again be in residence at Napa Valley Festival del Sole, which features the best in music, dance, fine wine and cuisine, as well as unique lifestyle programs. The New York Times called the Festival a “feast for the senses.”

Pletnev on Piano

After a six-year hiatus, RNO Founder and Artistic Director Mikhail Pletnev gave four piano concerts in April — two solo performances on April 13 & 14, and two concerts with the RNO, on April 21 and 22. All were at Moscow's Orchestrion concert hall.

2013 US Tour

In February, the RNO performed 14 concerts in 12 U.S. cities, with stops in California, Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois and Florida. Concerts were led by conductors Giancarlo Guerrero, Vasily Petrenko, and Andrei Rubtsov, and featured piano soloists Daniil Trifonov and Barry Douglas.

Wisconsin Residency

In January, RNO Principal Flutist Maxim Rubtsov had a week-long residency at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI). Together with pianist Sergi Kvitko, he taught three master classes, gave student lessons, and performed two public concerts, featuring a wide range of musical styles and genres. Students at the university made an excellent YouTube video to commemorate the visit.

Two Tenors Benefit

On December 19, the RNO, conducted by David Giménez, gave a benefit performance in the concert hall of Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral, with the participation of tenors Placido Domingo and José Carreras (pictured). Proceeds from the benefit concert will go to children with special needs and children from impoverished families.

Fourth Grand Festival

In September, the RNO's Fourth Grand Festival took place in Moscow, featuring an amazing array of international artists (from Michael Collins to the Brubeck Brothers to Alberto Zedda) performing everything from Shostakovich to Rossini, from Stravinsky to Tchaikovsky and Brubeck.
