Chris Brubeck
Composer, orchestral arranger, lyricist and performer, Chris Brubeck is equally at home playing jazz, rock, classical, funk and folk music, displaying his virtuosity on four instruments.
In May 2002, two of Chris's commissions were premiered: River of Song, a suite of children's poems set to music for orchestra sung by Frederica von Stade; and Interplay for 3 Violins and Orchestra, featuring The Boston Pops and violin virtuoso Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, jazz violinist Regina Carter, and Celtic fiddler Eileen Ivers of Riverdance fame. Interplay was broadcast on PBS' Evening at Pops in 2002 and won Chris the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for best composition for television broadcast.
2003 saw the premiere of two more pieces: Vignettes for Nonet, written for jazz quartet and woodwind quintet and commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Philadelphia Chamber Society and Bay Chamber Concerts; and On the Threshold of Liberty, written for the U.S. Army Field Band.
Chris has been named 2004 Music Alive Composer-in-Residence with the Stockton Symphony Orchestra and will be working on a new piece to premiere in Stockton, California in April 2005.
Chris has appeared as guest artist in some of the world's most renowned concert halls, among them Symphony Hall in Boston, Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. His international tours have taken him from the White House to Russia and have included performances at the Newport and Mt. Hood Jazz Festivals. His credits include dozens of records and CDs. He continues to tour with The Brubeck Brothers Quartet with brother Dan, and his acoustic funk-blues group, Triple Play.
